Land of Extremes

Look up Missouri in Wikipedia, and you will find it's a state of many almost "contradictions". Described as the "western-most eastern city", and a blend of eastern and western, urban and rurul, and midwestern and southern cultures.

Missouri has 114 counties, and it's capital is Jefferson City. St Louis is the largest city, with Kansas City, Springfield, and Columbia coming in as the next four. It's actually bordered by 8 other states.

The northern part of Missouri is in the plains, while the southern part lies in the Ozark Mountains. The Missouri River runs right between the two and separates them.

Made famous for the Louis and Clark Expedition, again the state contradicts by infamously being known for a "Mormon War", in which they kicked out all the Mormons. History also records fighting between Missouri and Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, and because they had slaves to farm, joined with the south during the civil war. A complex culture indeed for this midwestern state!
